Prompts & Fields
- Bank Number — Bank code and name used for the original deposit.
- Company Number — Company/entity tied to the receipt.
- Cash Journal No. — The journal number of the original cash posting. Tip: Run the Cash Receipts Journal from the Reports Menu to find this number.
- Reversal Date — Posting date for the reversal (typically the bank return date or correction date).
- Reversal Reason — Enter a 3‑letter reason code (see list below). Type / at the prompt to view codes.
- Check Date / Check Number / Check Amount / Customer Name — Displayed from the original receipt for confirmation.
- Lines — Shows affected invoices with Applied Amount, prior Invoice Amount, optional Adj Code/Adj Amnt, and resulting Balance.

Reverse a Receipt — Steps
- Enter Bank Number and Company Number.
- Enter the original Cash Journal No. (from the Cash Receipts Journal report).
- Confirm the displayed check details and customer name.
- Enter the Reversal Date and the Reversal Reason code.
- Review the invoice lines and amounts to be reopened.
- Press P to Post the reversal.
Tips & Notes
- After reversing for NSF, you may repost the replacement payment when received or assess fees via Invoice Adjustment.
- If the original application was incorrect, consider re‑posting correctly right after the reversal.
- Keep bank notices or emails attached in DIS for audit.
Troubleshooting
- “Cash Journal No. not found” → Run the Cash Receipts Journal to verify the journal number and bank/company.
- Invoices don’t match → Ensure the correct journal was referenced; compare amounts and check number.
- Posting blocked by period → Choose a reversal date in an open accounting period per policy.
